English Biography
Lyonel Sanon was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He completed his primary studies (1955–1962) at the School of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, and high school (1962– 1969) at the Lycée Anténor Firmin. He studied in 1972 to 1975 at the École Normale Supérieure of Haiti’s State University in the Modern Languages section (English and Spanish). In 1978, he becomes licencié ès lettres in Spanish. In 1982, he completed his studies in General Linguistics at the Faculty of Applied Linguistics. Recipient of a Fulbright scholarship, he went to study at Indiana University in the United States where he graduated in 1987 with a Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics/TESOL from Indiana University. In July 2000, he participated in an intensive 6-week training in the administration of language-teaching programs at the State University of New York in Buffalo.
Lyonel Sanon also has a background in Public Management, in School Administration (450 hours of training), Civic Education, and Conflict Resolution. In 1998, he took an introductory course in the Theory and Practice of Curriculum Development as part of a Haiti / UNDP / UNESCO project. In 1999, he participated in the curriculum development of language-teaching programs (English and Spanish) for the 3rd cycle of fundamental education in Haitian schools.
From 1984 to 1998 he worked at the Ministry of Education in the following positions: Inspector in Secondary Education, Head of Educational Animation Programs, and Director of Secondary Education (1990–1998).
Lyonel Sanon has taught in several schools, including Collège Saint-Pierre and Collège Jean-Jacques Dessalines from 1975 to 1984. From 1989 to the present, he’s been teaching courses on English-Spanish Contrastive Analysis at the Faculty of Applied Linguistics. In 1982, he co-authored the book J’apprends l’espagnol en Haïti (“I am learning Spanish in Haiti”) for use by high-school students. In 1996 he collaborated in the U.S. on the translation and adaptation of the book Democracy for All (“Democratie pour tous”). This book has been used in several schools in Haiti. In 1998, he published two books: 1 Comunico en español, Volume 1 and Comunico en español, Volume 2 for use by high-school students. From 2009 to May 2010, he collaborated with professors Thony Augustin and Fortenel Thélusma on a language-teaching program for Kreyòl as part of a project on “Accelerated Initial Training of Teachers.”

Lyonel Sanon est né à Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Il a fait ses études primaires (de 1955 à 1962) chez les Frères du Sacré-Cœur, et ses études secondaires (de 1962 à 1969) au Lycée Antênor Firmin. Il a étudié (de 1972-1975) à l’Ecole Normale Supérieure (Université d’Etat d’Haiti) en section langues vivantes (anglais espagnol). En 1978, il a obtenu de cette école le grade de licencié ès lettres espagnol. En 1982, il a terminé ses études en Linguistique Générale à la Faculté de Linguistique Appliquée. Bénéficiaire d’une bourse d’études Fullbright, il est parti étudier au Etats-Unis, à Indiana University, d’où il est sorti diplômé en 1987, Il détient un Master in Applied Linguitics TESOL de Indiana University. En juillet 2000, il a participé à un programme intensif de 6 semaines en Administration de programme de langue, à l’Université de New York à Buffalo.
Lyone Sanon a aussi une formation en Gestion Publique, en Administration scolaire (450 heures de formation), en Education Civique, en Résolution de conflits. Il a suivi en 1988 un Stage d’Initiation Théorique et Pratique en Situation dans le domaine de l’Elaboration de Curriculum, réalisé avec l’encadrement du Projet Haiti/Pnud/Unesco. Il a aussi participé en 1999 à l’élaboration des programmes de langues (anglais espagnol) du 3ième cycle de l’Ecole Fondamentale.
De 1984 à 1998, il a travaillé au Ministère de l’Education Nationale ou il a été tour à tour : Inspecteur à l’Enseignement Secondaire, Chef de service du Service d’Animation Pédagogique, et Directeur à l’Enseignement Secondaire (de 1990 à 1998).
Lyonel Sanon a enseigné dans plusieurs écoles secondaires, dont le Collège Saint Pierre, le Lycée Jean Jacques Dessalines, de 1975 à 1984. De 1989 à nos jours, il enseigne le cours d’Analyse Contrastive : anglais espagnol à la Faculté de Linguistique Appliquée
En 1982, il a participé à l’élaboration du livre J’apprends l’espagnol en Haïti à l’usage des élèves du secondaire. En 1996, il a collaboré (aux Etats-Unis) à la traduction et à l’adaptation du livre Democracy for All (Democratie pour tous). Ce livre a été dans plusieurs écoles d’Haiti. En 1998, il a publié deux ouvrages : Comunico en español 1, Comunico en español 2 à l’usage des élèves du secondaire. IL a préparé, en collaboration avec les professeurs Thony Augustin et Fortenel Thélusma, de 2009 à mai 2010 un Programme de Didactique du Créole dans le cadre du Projet de Formation Initiale Accéléré des maîtres.
